Artist Statement
My collages explore the complex relationships of gender, masculinity, trauma, repression, healing, the natural world and domestic life.
Through the act of cutting, layering and assembling magazine fragments—images themselves steeped in societal narratives—I create new contexts that challenge traditional representations of masculinity and expose our underlying assumptions about gender.
Each collage is a negotiation between what is visible and what is withheld— a visual exploration of the dissociation that often accompanies trauma.
I invite viewers to consider how repression shapes identity. By remixing
images produce by mass media I seek not only to critique imposed idealizations and representations of masculinity in both public and private life, but to also carve out space for vulnerability and healing.
